Colored Links for Previously Visited Sites

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out!

I'm doing research online, and so increased the "days to keep pages in
history" to 150 so that previously viewed links would stay a different color
for the whole time.

Unfortunately, I lost all my previously viewed colored links this week.
They all reverted back to the basic blue "never clicked on" color.

1. Is there a way I can turn back the clock and get my previously viewed
color to reinstate?

2. How do I protect against this happening again, as I'm halfway through
and would hate for it to happen a second time.

Thanks again for any help,
Dave Claborn

I don't have a useful answer for you; I just wanted to let you know that
you're not the only one who sees symptoms like this. It's not the
retention period that causes the problem. Mine is set to 31 and I still
occasionally find that viewed links suddenly are no longer colored
differently from unviewed links. So far as I can tell, the history
information is intact -- it's just the special coloration that's lost.

First, check to make sure that your color isn't being overridden by
a content provider's choices. E.g. use the Accessibility dialog's
Ignore colors specified on web pages option.
(Keystrokes for toggling setting: Alt-T,O,Alt-e,c)

Second, is your History still intact? E.g. History is only slightly more
reliably saved than the TIF which is very susceptible to being reset
due to improper shutdowns or power failures.

Third, are these sites' URLs stable? Any modification of them such as
parameter differences could result in a changed URL from the one you
originally had in the History and thus result in a not-yet-visited detection.

2. How do I protect against this happening again, as I'm halfway through
and would hate for it to happen a second time.

The only thing that I can think of is to be more careful with your shutdowns,
if you find that your History has been affected.

Thanks again for any help,
