Color Profiles for printing in XP aren't used?

I have a Lexmark color laser printer. I have a custom color profile
for it. I have all color management in the printer driver turned off.
I have the color profile loaded in the driver.

When I print using the Windows XP Picture and Fax viewer, all colors
print perfectly. If I print that same image in IE or Word 2003 it
prints all faded exactly as if the color profile wasn't installed in
the driver setup.

This sucks because when I go to web sites that give driving directions
with color maps they print all faded. If I take those graphic images
to my desktop and then load them with the Windows Picture and Fax
viewer and print them from there they print fine.

So why can't printing from IE or Word 2003 print like the Windows
Picture and Fax viewer. I wish anything being printed would make use
of the color correction profile that I have associated with the printer
(in the printer driver).

If anyone has any tips on how I can fix this, I sure would appreciate
it.

Thank you,

-Allistah

I called Lexmark and found out this is a bug in their printer drivers.
They recommended to use the build in XP driver for QMS ColorScipt Laser
1000 as it works well with their printers. It did indeed fix the
problem. Then I went on Lexmarks site and downloaded the Postscript
Level 3 driver and that works. But their driver "package" has the
issue.

They aren't color managed.

Yes but since I have the color correction profile installed at the
printer driver level, it should print ok. Using a driver that doesn't
have this bug makes everything print fine the way I was expecting it to.
