Collect System Information

RickCass

I would like to have some way to collect the system
informtion on all our XP boxes. Can someone tell what
program will work.

Basically, we need to collect the machine name, hard
drive specs, memory, etc.

We are trying to determine what machine need hardware
upgrades...

Click "Start", then "Run" and type in the box (no quotes) "msinfo32" and click ok. You will get the system info applet to come up. Then click (at the top) "File", then "export", and then in the "File name:" drop down box, give it a name, like PC1 or whatever will reference that particular PC. You may want to use the PCs given name in this case. Then save the text files created, on a shared drive, or where the correct persson relative to needing this info, will know what to need when upgrading.

Sorry, save the info using the "Save" feature, this will create an ".nfo" file which will be easily read.

Can I run this program automatically and let it collect
everything and then output to network path?

You can save anything to wherever you please, as that option is available with anything you "save", or "save as". The "Save in" drop down box has all the paths available listed to wherever one wants to save a file.

By using the appropriate switches with the MSINFO32 tool you can, among
other things, gather information from another computer and generate a *.txt
report that displays only specific categories. For more information see the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
