Code 10, no audio device ...

Swapped in new motherboard to existing box, kept existing XP SP2 OS. XP
re-dected all devices upon reboots. Loaded all manufacturer's motherboard
drivers. Audio enabled in BIOS.

Vinyl AC97 codec driver status "This device cannot start. (Code 10)", greyed
out in control panel. Boot from Ubuntu disk, I hear audio, therefore not a
hardware problem.

Something in XP, do you know what I can clear out in registry to get working?

Also, before I do a repair, I will be using a XP SP2 disk which does not have
a years worth of updates on it. Will this not cause me some further grief?

Do you mean run "repair" off the XP cd or re-install O.S. over existing
installation?

Not with your present problem. You WILL have to download a lot of
stuff once you've fixed that ;-(
