cmd full screen mode hangs

Cmd sessions in full screen hang the computer with a black screen in my W2K
pro (monitor goes out of sync and the power led of the monitor turns to
yellow). There is no way out but the reset button after that.

The problem seems to be in the display adapter (Radeon 7000) drivers because
full screen sessions work fine with the standard vga driver. I found no info
from Ati regarding that problem in W2K and none of the older drivers worked
either.

Is there any way to program cmd to bypass the Radeon driver and use the
standard vga driver only in full screen cmd sessions? For example usin vba
scripts etc.?

ALT-TAB will not bring you out of it? I had this problem a little while ago
and ALT-TAB would take you back to windows. Also, mine turned out to be the
monitor but I was able to get it to work for a while by lowering the refresh
rate in advanced properties. The monitor went out shortly afterwards.

None of the keyboard combinations work. The Num- , Scroll- and Caps Lock keys
still ignite the corresponding leds so the system isn't totally hanged.

It seems that the fault is not in the monitor (IBM E74 CRT 17") because the
full screen cmd -mode works with the std vga display driver. I've also tried
other monitor drivers but none of them have effect to the problem.

I've sed e-mail to Ati about the issue and I will post the reply here as
soon as I (hopefully) get it.

In my experience, you will need a new computer long before you hear anything
useful from ATI. You may want to try the following forum. They have been
helpful in the past.
