Closing Linked Documents

When going to links from a Word doc, they do not close when using the back arrow. Which means that I can end up with many open documents after closing the original or even worse, preventing others from using the linked docs because I forgot to close them.

Is there a setting somewhere that will allow me to do this?

Don't think so. You need to use Alt+F4 to close unwanted app windows.
