Hi Guys etc.,
My clock will not reset and stay accurate. Its giving out all sorts of
erratic times.
Would this be due to my not using the computer for two weeks and the MS
programme getting petulant, or, is my machine about to meet the great
recycler?

Please reply in plain english without any techy terminology - I would be
grateful.

Many Thanks.

Replace your CMOS battery.

Somewhere on the mother board is a battery about the size of a quarter --
may be a type 2032 -- if you have your computer's manual, look for the "CMOS
battery" -- determine the type of battery, get a new one, then replace it --
do not pull out the old one, take it to Wal-Mart, buy a new one, and replace
it -- the mother board does not like to go without the CMOS battery for
longer than a few minutes.

Why take it to Wal-Mart??????

I think he did mean take the PC to Walmart....meaning take the old battery
out and replace immediately with the new one....Don`t take the battery out
and therefore leave it out for a couple of hours while you go and get a new
one.

I had a similar thing where the clock went haywire and it was the battery.

Sounds like a CMOS battery. CMOS battery should only be removed when another
(new battery) is ready to be put in. Also remember to touch the inside metal
of the tower in case of static charge.

Have you replaced your CMOS battery lately? Sounds like it might be on
it's last legs if you haven't done this. Typically they're a round
battery on the motherboard which is about the size of a US quarter. So
if you're not comfortable with tinkering around on the insides of your
pc, then take it to a reputable shop.
