clock time change

the time on my computer changes everytime i reset it to
the correct time. sometimes this takes a few minutes,
sometimes nearly an hour, but usually after opening
programs. is this a sign that i need a new motherboard
battery? i don't have any other computer problems besides
this one.

Definitely not. Losing time while the computer is powered off is
a symptom of a failing battery. Losing time while Windows is
running can *not* be the battery.

Are you losing time or gaining time? How much?

i am loosing time. in fact everytime i notice it i lose
about 1hour -- it is never exact but if anything it is
slightly more than an hour. over the course of a day while
the computer is on i may lose about 20 hours. so, to be
more precise, my computer is actually going backwards in
time rather than just slowing down. it is very bizzare!

Try this:

Go to Start | Run and type cmd. Then enter the following
commands:

net stop w32time
w32tm /unregister
w32tm /register
net start w32time
