System Clock Speeding Up

L

My system clock has always kept nearly perfect time. I have it set to
automatically synchronize with an internet time server. For the past couple
of weeks, the system clock has been gaining 2 or 3 minutes per day. I didn't
make any system changes that precipitated it. Does this sound familiar to
anyone? Anybody got any ideas? Any chance this is intentionally programmed
to warn me of a low battery or something? Any ideas? Thanks.

It's not intentionally. But yes, a weak battery speeds up the quartz
regulated clocks.

OK, Bill. Thanks. I've never replaced the battery before. Will I lose any
settings or anything? I assume the system should be turned off and
unplugged. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Yes and the CMOS/BIOS will go back to the defaults (well it should
remember everything long enough to change the battery, but no
guarantee). So you might want to go into Setup and note what they are
now.
