Same here. Every CD I try to play chops and stutters. So far I have
tried ....
1. Setting the playback from digital to analog - makes it worse
2. Disconnecting to the internet - doesn't work
3. Using WinAMP instead of WMP - doesn't work

Sheesh, playing a CD for crying out loud. XP is the ONLY OS that it has
not been possible to play a cd. And I have played cds on OSX, Linux,
WinNT, Win98. Yeah, great "upgrade".

Strange thing is, I'm sure that this happened recently, after I
downloaded a patch from MS. If it wasn't for all the security holes I
would have never patched my machine, because every time you update your
OS from Microsoft, something breaks. Nice way to treat your serfs.

Can anyone tell me how I can play a CD on Windows XP?

Thanks,

Ian

OK, so I downloaded the evil WMP9, then switched play mode from digital
to analog, and problem solved.

So, I suspect that MS deliberately broke my machine with SP1 to force me
to download the evil WMP9 with it's evil licence.

So, problem solved (sort of).
