Clicking on web page "links"

Hi.
Sorry,but im still unable to view any web pages where you have to "click on
this link"
All I see is a blank box on screen.
The one thing I have noticed is....when I click on "view" then
"encoding"....it says "blank"
hope you can help please.
Running windows xp home edition
 
Rightclick the page, then Encoding, and set it to "Western European"
