Clicking on IE link on desktop, new window

Someone I know has a web link or two on his desktop, and currently
when he clicks on one, it doesn't open a new IE window like he wants.
If there's a copy of IE running, it'll just use that one. He wants it
to open a new one.

He claims it worked before when he was using Win ME. We put Win 2K on
and that doesn't work anymore. I'm assuming it's just IE and there's
a setting somewhere..... yeah, I know, some people are really anal
'bout things.

From IE> Tools> Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows for
launching shortcuts."

Another possibility for individual shortcuts. Find "IExplore.exe"
Right-click and drag IExplore.exe to the desktop and choose "Create
shortcut." Right-click that shortcut> Properties> Target, modify the Target
to include the URL.
Example:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"
becomes
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" www.yahoo.com
Note a space between " and w

Two more ways to control window usage:
1. Drag the link to the window you want to use (sometimes inconvenient.)
2. Drag the link to the button on the taskbar of the window you want to use
(don't release it yet) wait a second for that window to restore and take
focus, drag the link to the window.

Hope this helps,
Don

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".
