click sounds disappeared

Does anyone know how to make the click sounds on the computer come back when
you click on a link online and it makes that sound? Mine just disappeared
one day.

Hi Ruth:

I know the sound you mean though some of my friends computers with XP do not
make that sound. On my machine it disappears occasionaly even though I
don't remember doing anything to have caused it. Whenever I reboot, it
re-appears and so I have not worried about it. Does your re-appear at boot
up?

no, it doesn't. it's been gone for a couple of days now and I've tried to
restore the entire system but it won't restore but I found somewhere else
that my norton could be causing that problem

That's as good an explanation as any. I have associated "click loss" with
invoking Windows Media Player then invoking Macromedia Flash so that they,
presumably, are both loaded at the same time.

Ruth,

Go into control panel, and click on sounds, speech and audio devices. Click on shange sound scheme
and scroll down the list of sound events and select "Start navigation" under Windows Explorer.
Choose the "Windows XP start.wav" file in teh drop down menu and click ok. Now your "click" sound
should be back.

You're lucky! Why would anyone want to have to listen to that idiotic click
sound everytime you click a hyperlink? Only MickeyMouse would design such
silliness.

Dear Anando,

Hello. If I may take this thread off in a slightly different direction...

What actions (not including specifically de-selecting it in the Sounds and
Audio Devices list) would cause "Start Navigation" to no longer have a sound
like "Windows XP Start.wav" attached to it, thus making the clicks go quiet?

This "sudden quietness" has been happening a few times recently for me, even
though I reinstalled WindowsXP SP2 last weekend, and even installed SP3 on
top of that.

I hope that you'll see this, and will please respond soon. Thank you very
much.

Sincerely,
Bram Weiser
