"CLICK" sound in browser isn't working anymore.

I just got a new notebook yesterday, which runs Windows XP. I've had no
problems whatsoever with it. . .but I just noticed that the "CLICK" sound you
hear when you click the "Back" button or double-click a file to open it
(etc.) isn't working anymore. It was working fine earlier today and
yesterday. I haven't changed any sound settings or I done any kind of major
modifications (just the usual set-up). I hoped that simply re-starting would
bring the sound back, but it doesn't. ALL of my other sounds are working
normally, though.

Thank you.

.... Click Start > Run
.... Type "mmsys.cpl ,1" (Without quotes)
.... Scroll down and under "Windows Explorer", click "Complete navigation"
.... From the scroll down menu, choose "Windows XP Start"
.... Click OK

Or a easy way :
.... Click Start > Run > "mmsys.cpl ,1" (Without quotes) > Choose "Windows
Default" from the drop down menu

Hello,

Are your other sounds working ? If yes, click on Start > Control Panel and
navigate to Sound, speech and audio devices. Click on 'change the sound
scheme' and in the program events list, scroll down and select 'Start
navigation' under the Windows Explorer section and make sure that the
'Windows XP start.wav' file is selected under Sounds.

THANK YOU SO MUCH ANANDO! That did the trick. Thanks also, Ayush, for your
generous help. I've got one more question, which I'm going to list
independently in a minute, but I'll slip it in here as well:

I've plugged in a new optical travel mouse, which is working fine, but I
want to unplug it for now. The "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is nowhere to
be found in the tray of the notification area anymore (even when I have it
show hidden icons). I'm just wondering why it disappeared, but more
importantly, where do I access the "Safely Remove Hardware" function? I've
gone into the Device Manager but am not sure if that's the right area. I
don't see anything identifiable as the mouse under the USB port listings
there.

Thanks again!

Hello,

You can safely unplug the USB mouse without doing anything like clicking on
the 'safely remove hardware' button. I am not too sure about this but my
guess is that the 'safely remove hardware' icon usually appears for mass USB
storage devices. I have not seen that one for USB mice for sure.
