ClearType Problem - Letters Look Colored

G

Guest

Hi,

When I choose ClearType, some letters like "l" (ell) "i" (iee) and other
vertical parts of some letters are RED in color. Similarly, there are some
letters in GREEN. But RED is more prominent.

How can I resolve this?

I'm using Dell's Inspiron 8600 laptop that has Ultra SXGA + LCD screen.

Thanks...

I am also having the same problem with the red and green letters, I am using
vista on and top of the line system, and no one seems to have any answers, if
it is because of a true type font, can anyone help me with changing to
another one, I have tried to change the font settings, for different windows
settings, but can I change it system wide?

Please note there are separate groups for Windows Vista and Windows XP.
And posting to the correct one will likely get you the correct answer
more quickly.

first, be sure your video adapter is set to the native resolution of the
LCD screen - using anything other than the native res will make things
look poor. (right-click desktop | properties | settings tab | screen res
section).

second, use the ClearType Tuner.

There is a web version:

http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/Step1.aspx

(you must be using IE)

and a Powertoy version you can install in the control panel:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Run it, and the first step is the RGB or GRB selector: this may be your
main issue (you said green/red fringing). RGB is normal, some oddball
panels use the other.

Then go thru the remaining steps, it should look good after that. If not
turn off cleartype.

good luck.
