clearing search strings

could anyone tell me how to clear search strings in Windows XP? I can clear them in my SBC Global but not Internet explorer? I have tried clearing in auto complete but that did not work.
 
Hi Paula,

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru
Delete the key. (It will be recreated for you. Deleting it clears the
history).

Clear History in Search

Automated Edits:

Clear Recent File Lists (Search History Clear) Line 41

To prevent keeping a history altogether, right click ACMru/Permissions/Deny
all users and groups listed.
Alternatively, IE/Search/Change Preferences/Turn AutoComplete Off
