Clear Desktop Background

I recently installed XP on my computer and the background
behind the icons remains the solid background color
instead of going transparent. This is really annoying!
I read the article "Background Transparency and Drop
Shadows Do Not Display on Desktop Icons" (published under
Q305117) that says "This problem can occur if you have a
background or have added a desktop item that uses Active
Desktop" or if you have locked the desktop. I have done
neither of these things.
The only desktop icons I have are My Comuter, Network
Places, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, and the
Recycle Bin.
Please let me know how to change the background to
transparent.

Hi,
Right click on my computer and click on properties. Flip to the advanced tab
and click on settings under performance and scroll down the list of visual
effects and check "Use drop shadows..."

Also right click on desktop and point to Arrange icons by, and uncheck "Lock
web items on desktop"
