Appearance settings - desktop icon background color

After installing XP, the icon captions have a transparent
background by default. I changed the desktop background
color and now can't get the caption backgrounds back to
being transparent. Is there a way?

Hi Kate,

Checkpoints to consider:

1) Right click on desktop >> arrange icons by >> uncheck "Lock Web items on
desktop"

2) Right click on My Computer >> Properties >> Advanced tab >> Settings
under 'Performance' >> check "Use drop shadows for icon labels on desktop".

Neither was the answer, but it gave me enough to go on.
The second was closest.. "use drop shadows for icon
labels on desktop" was already checked, but I tried a
couple other setting changes and on the third, I hit the
jackpot. I ended up unchecking "use a background image
for each folder type" and now it's beautiful again.

Unfortunately, the default icons don't have a transparent background..

so yeah, you're kinda stuck on that one...
