cleanmgr.exe

Hello: I can no longer do a disk cleanup in Windows XP.
In looking at my Task Manager, cleanmgr.exe is going back
& forth between 98 & 99%.....when I click on disk
cleanup, all I get is a partial green bar (Compress Old
File) and it goes no further.

Jupiter, I have done this fix and now when I click on
disk cleanup, I get the screen to pick which drive to
clean and then it goes away and nothing happens. I do
know there are lots of things to clean out but this fix
has not helped. Any other ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like the other fella gave you the wrong line # Go
back to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
line 84 restore disk manager (cleanmgr) open it up to
your computer, but before you do that push
ctrl , alt , del then click the processes highlight
cleanmgr.exe and end processe. If that dont work leave a
message you can go into the reg edit and get rid of your
corrupt old comp. files, but it's better to stay out of it
if you don't have to.What goes wrong with this is if you
start the disc clean and while it's scanning you X it
out,or end processe.then only partial old files are
checked and corrupts the others that need deleated.then
it won't run.best to let it run all the way thru if you
start it first couple of times it takes a long time to
run but once you start it's better to let it go.Let me
know if this works or not, if I get an extra second I'll
put in the reg edit so you can get into your registry to
deleate it.Also sounds like you may have a slowing
problem your trying to speed up.Try
http://www.webattack.com/get/adaware.shtml
push download it--ad aware IT'S FREE gets rid of spyware
that can slow down your system. I do 3 things to keep
mine running fast 1.Run ad aware 2. find kelly's fix
called empty internet temp. files on exit 3.empty recycle
bin.then you wont have to run the disc clean-up so
often.good luck.
