Disk Cleanup - Hangs - help Please

At first I got the never ending window saying it was "Compressing Old
Files". So I did this regedit:
"Disk Cleanup Tool Stops Responding While Compressing Old Files"

Then nothing happended, no window stayed open but cleanmgr.exe was chewing
up 50% of system resource. So I tried the manual clean up as indictated
here:
"The Disk Cleanup Tool Stops Responding"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823302&Product=winxp

So I then restored the Registry extract, no luck.

I then ran number 48 of http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm -
that didn't help.

I then ran 84 of http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm - the
cleanmgr.exe - didn't help.

I still get nothing after clikcing on cleanup yet the system starts
Cleanmgr.exe and gives it 50% of resource.

Anyone know how to uninstall and reinstall this function ? Any other ideas
?

So, it turns out after doing a scandisk, everything resumed to normal....
