cleanmgr.exe freeze

recently, whenever i attempt to use disk cleanup, the
program starts to compress old files, then freezes. i
have left the machine on all night, and still no
progress, past old file compression. i have a p3 933 mhz
system with 128 mb and a 30 gig hd. whenever i
doublecheck windows task manager after cancelling out of
disk cleanup, the program cleanmgr.exe is still running.
is there any way to bypass this, or some way to fix it
outright?
