Cleaning a Mouse with no Balls

Yes my friends --
I have an optical mouse with a tail but no ball. The scroll
wheel acts sticky sometimes. How do I clean it?

If you managed to goober up the internals, you would need to disassemble
it to pick the chunks out. It wasn't designed to be opened up.

Did you cut off its balls or is it just a female?

In both cases it explains its erratic behavior.

To clean the scroll you will have to open the mouse case and see if there is
any trash near the scrolling wheel...
it may be worn out and not only dirty.

The screws to take apart the shell are probably underneath the friction
pads (the small pads on the bottom of the mouse). You have to peel them
off to get at the screws. However, that also means they won't stick as
well when you try to put the pads back on (i.e., you may need to glue
them back on).

If it is a tailed mouse, optical or not, it is probably cheap enough to
consider just go buying another new one. ($6 for a Logitech;

Thank yoou, gentlemen, for your wisdom so far --

but HOW do I open the case? I can't find any screws. It's a
logitech. No fancy shape or doo-dahs -- just a left & right button
and a scroll wheel.

I can imagine water, coffee, coffee with cream, dust, and windex in
the internals.

It's about 4 years old, and gets about 4 hours of use a day.

If there are screws holding it together, they hide them under the slider
feet. If it's glued together, open it with a hammer :)

Once you have that new one, maybe try this: hold the mouse upside-down, and
spray a bunch of cleaner (formula 409 or similar) in the hole by the track
ball. Keep it upside-down, let all the goo drip out. Keep going until the
stuff comes out clear, then prop it up so the rest cab dry and drip out.

Then you either have two, or still just one. :)
