Class installer prompt

Have XP Pro on home machine. The DVD hardware is an older
model with older software (1998 or so). As I try to
download the driver from CD, I am prompted in device
manager with this dialog box that says the following.

Cannot install this hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware: Multimdedia
controller.

An error occurred during the installation of the device.

The Class installer has denied the request to install or
upgrade this device.

Click finish to close the wizard.

That is the problem. My question is I NEED to install this
driver so that my DVD player can function properly. SO,
how does one change this "class installer" so that it will
allow me to install this driver?

After this driver is installed, I can then install the
software no problem.

There HAS to be an answer OUTSIDE of you can't. I mean
really, why on earth would MS allow such a HARD and FAST
rule.

Any help would be appreciated, THANKS!
