Civilization IV and Vista

Every time I try to install Civilization IV on my computer, it keeps saying
that DirectX 9.0c June 2005 Edition on my computer, and it does not install.
Can someone supply a workaround?

Hi
It was a long time ago now but my recollection is simply install and play,
no compatbility mode involved. I vaguely remember the first time I tried
it, I didn't let it install any DX9c files, and this was a mistake. If it
wants to install dx9c let it, and it should be right.
btw I'm running Vista64 Ultim.

If Civ IV asks for directX then I did not install it - just cancel DirectX
installation, Vista should have all needed DX files. I play without
problems.
