chkdsk

I have windows xp pro on the computer I am having trouble with. I tried to
run the chkdsk and it said I had some corrupt files so it deleted them, then
it started to run stage 2 but had been just sitting there on 0 percent for
over an hour. Does it take that long to do it or is there another problem? My
computer started to act up yesterday and I just shut it down till I had more
time to mess with it. Windows will load but thats it. Nothing will work and
everything I try to bring up it says its corrupt and to run the chkdsk
again. Is there something else I can do? Thank you.

No, it's not normal for Chkdsk to just sit there. Since I don't know
anything about this computer, its hardware, or its history, the next step I
would suggest is testing the hard drive with a diagnostic utility
downloaded from the hard drive mftr. You will create a bootable CD/floppy
with the file you download. Boot with this media and do a thorough test of
the hard drive. If it fails any physical tests, replace it.

Before you go further with anything, it would be a Really Good Idea to back
up any data to external media first.
