I have just reinstalled windows on a Dell Dension 2400. Having problems every
other restart or startup CHKDSK runs. It finds damaged files it either delets
or repairs them. Does this m=ean the hard disk has a problem?

If you know the HDD mfgr, go to their site and download their HDD diagnostic
software, it might give you a clue. (I am having the same problem with my
backup drive D: the diagnostic software identifies the drive as having
damaged files, however CHKDSK never finds/corrects any errors. The CHKDSK
/f switch wont allow me to run it unless I de-mount ?? the drive.) Looking
for alternative program which will clean up the files.

Try running HD Tune(freeware).

Download and run it and see what it turns up.
http://www.hdtune.com/

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive
letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard )
and copy into a further message.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy
to Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Also do a full surface
scan with HD Tune.

Hope this helps.
