chkdsk /r not working please help

i installed sp2 on xp pro, when it rebooted and i clicked on my account
nothing happens i tryed admin and same again nothing happend. ive tryed f8
and safe mode and still nothin.. i then tryed to boot from disc and do a
repair. i followed the steps to where i typed in chkdsk /r and i got the msg
: COULD NOT BE LOCATED IN EITHER STARTUP DIRECTORY OR CDROM DRIVE.... TYPE
THE FULL PATH INCLUDIN
DRIVE LETTER FOR THE LOCATION OF autochk.exe:s ......
now im stuck as to what to do.. last resort is a full install again but dont
want to do that if there is a slim chance i can fix this problem... someone
please help a damsel in distress.
 
If you have access to another XP computer, you could try creating a BartPE
boot CD that can be used to find out what the problem is and effect a repair.

Or you could try using the recovery methods on this page:

There is also info on it about creating a BartPE CD.

Maybe you can get the Recovery Console to work in order to try some of the
recovery commands.
