Chkdsk hangs and safe mode as well

Hi,
I'm running windows 2k sp4, and it's had a problem shutting down all the
way. It will shutdown to where it says windows is shutting down, and then
that little window goes awya and I'm left with a blue desktop screen and me
pressing the power button to turn it off. I recently had some errors about my
video drivers, so I updated the nvidia drivers compatible with 2k and after a
few reboots, chkdsk won't finish running. It stops at 77 percent and doesn't
do anything else. when I reboot and try safemode, safemode stops right before
the splash screen. Any suggestions would really be helpful. I found one
article that seemed relevant, but it suggested installing sp2, and seen as
how I have sp4, I wouldn't gather me needing to install it. Please correct me
if I'm wrong. Have a good day and thank you in advance

Yes, I went to their website and they had a webpage tucked away for drivers
compatible with 2k =)

thank you, I've used this tool for other XP computers, and I noticed 2k
doesn't have it. this will help with the shutting down problem. Do you have
any suggestions on chkdsk or safe mode problems?

Maybe caused by a driver, try system file checker - sfc - see win help.
Also visit HD manu.web site search for HD checking utility, download follow
instructions to test HD

I ran sfc and didn't get anything from it. I'm going to uninstall the video
driver I updated and reinstall a default and see if that helps. Anyone's
comments would be greatly appreciated.

If you start in safe mode it will not start your vid.drivers, it will start
with std. MS vga mode.
Did you run msconfig to disable all none MS items?
Did you use the hd.manu checking utility?

Well, for your first statement, I'd love to be able to load up in safe mode
if you could help with that part =). As for the msconfig. I went through
every startup that wasn't ms and turned each on one after another but to no
avail. I also went to the manu's website and used some of their utilities,
seagate, and nothing turned up. Each and every scan came up with nothing
wrong. the file system checker said there were no errors, but it did take a
considerable amount of time to scan. Any ideas? and thank you again for
taking your time to help.
