CHKDSK freezes

CHKDSK freezes repeatedly early in stage 1 of 5. No error message. HP
Pavilion dv2214us (dv2000 series) Entertainment Notebook PC running Vista
Home Premium.

Some posts I have read indicate that others have had the same problem, but I
haven't seen any solutions. HP Support didn't provide any answers.

After my post, I received a reply from HP Support telling me to take several
steps and then run hard drive diagnostics from BIOS setup. I'm running the
tests now.
