CHKDSK and Diskeeper 7 and 8

How does one get CHKDSK to allow a disc defragmenter to
work. Everytime time I try to run the defragmenter, a
message comes up saying that (Diskeeper) can't access my
NTFS hard disc. "...cannot open volume for direct access."
I was able to run chkdsk C: on a command screen; it found
no problem with the disc. But Diskeeper never can run,
saying that CHKDSK must run first, but only on the reboot.
(It never runs on the reboot.)

In Diskeeper's "Set it and Forget it" dialog, choose the boot defrag tab
and check "run checkdsk first". Then click "Set" to schedule the boot
defrag to run at the next restart. Then exit DK, and restart.

Upon startup let chkdsk run, then DK should run right after it.

Why, or why must you insist on leaving out the original query?

Hi BeeJay -

The message you're seeing is because for one reason or another, the
"dirty bit" has been set on this hard drive, and the system thinks
CHKDSK needs to run. If you haven't already, I'd recommend contacting
the Diskeeper Tech Support folks at (e-mail address removed). They
should be able to help you resolve this problem.

I hope this helps -

It sounds as though you have Diskeeper's boot-time defrgamentation
permanently enabled. That's normally the only thing that runs chkdsk on the
next boot-up - but it's supposed to be a user-select one-off action.
