Checking Hard Drive for Consistency?

I was wondering what would trigger XP to automatically
Check Disk a drive for consistency at start up?

In that case, perhaps a less-than-clean shutdown? Something left
"unresolved" at shutdown?
This has been mentioned. You may want to keep a log of your startups and
track the checkdisk behavior.
