I got a new cable (Belkin VGA/SVGA HDDB15M/HDDB15M) for my Dell
UltraSharp 2000FP monitor.

The screen image is much improved.

But when I shut down or hibernate, the screen shows the
rainbow-striped box which says "Check Signal Cable".

I solved it by powering down the monitor, but I’d like a better fix.

Check your monitor's setup for a shorter power save delay setting.

Otherwise, it's doing what it's supposed to. When there's no signal from
the PC, but monitor is on, it has to assume there's a problem.
