Check for attachments from unknown senders before junk filter ?

I want to change the junk filter rule so that:

1. the first check is to see if the email has an attachment and is from an
unknown sender (not in contacts and not in safe list)

2. the next check is the normal Outlook junk filter test

3. other inbox rules then run

Step 1 is a very good way to spot junk mail, most of which contains
attachments.

I used to put all my safe list into contacts (tedious) but it did the trick
and blocked junk very well. Much better if I can run rule 1 first and be able
to check the safe list in a rule. I don't even need the standard junk filter
in that case. Rules allow checking for attachments but not the safe list.

Is there any way of doing this now or possibility that MS will upgrade
Outlook to allow checking the safe list in a rule?

Thanks

SL

You can't change the junk filter rule. If you can write VB code you *might*
be able to script something that checks the address of messages containing
attachments against your Outlook Address Book (which includes Contacts) and
your Safe Senders List but I can't think of any way you could force it to
run first. Not to mention I'm not sure how it might affect your Outlook
performance.

Perhaps you should check out SpamBayes instead?

Thanks for helpful SpamBayes link - it looks promising.

Hopefully MS might enhance Outlook in the way I suggest as the current junk
filter leaves a lot of room for improvement.

I have found SpamBayes to be the single most effective improvement for
Outlook on the market - plus, it is FREE!!! :)

I'm sure there will be some future anti-spam enhancements in Outlook but
currently most of the good enhancements are on the Exchange server side.

In the meantime SpamBayes is a very good solution and certainly economical.
