Cheapish Graphics Card

Dear all,

I currently use a Dual Screen Leadtek Winfast A340TD Geforce FX 5200 256MB DDR which runs COD, HL2 and CS:Source fine. I have a second PC now that I would like to upgrade to a similar spec card but single screen. The machine will only be running these games.

Any ideas of something suitable and not too pricey?

Cheers,

Ian

you could get a geforce 6200 (prices i seen ranged from £30-50),a 6600 or 6600GT, with the latter being priced just under £100.These cards will run those games pretty decently:)

I've just realised that it will be for a Compaq D510 Small Form Factor machine. Isn't there an issue with graphics cards and these machines, something about the sizing of the AGP plate? Could be wrong though..;)

have a look in the case and make sure the slot is on the motherboard first, and to check whether it will fit (you could do a fit test with your 5200 to make sure)

the 6200 will be good or a 9600 either will cost about £50, i have a 9600 and it runs CS: source on default settings, theres a little bit of lag when theres an explosion but its still playable

Just realised that the card has to be PCI only, not PCI e or AGP. Is the 6200 available in PCI?

if its only a PCI slot then i dont think the 6200 comes in it, you will probably end up with another FX5200

Thats very limiting only having pci

I reckon you have a choice between a radeon 7000 or 9250, or a fx5200 or 5500.
