Cheap Software, Help Please

This site

http://otk.fragaware.com/

sells software at a resonable price and seemed legit. I purchased XP Pro
SP2. It is cheaper because you download the sotware, no packaging etc. good
idea really.

BUT when downloaded in their instructions their is this message about
getting updates.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
HOW TO GET UPDATES FOR "MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP":

You will need 'Windows.XP.Pro.License.Activator.exe' file which has been
added to your account with 'MS Windows XP'

Please follow the instruction below:

1. Save this file to your hard drive and run it

2. Reboot your computer twice.

3. On second reboot all notifications should disappear. Please choose
'Custom' update when visiting Windows Updates page and do not download
'Windows Genuine Notification'. This new tool from MS does not often work
fine with OEM licenses. All other updates should download and install fine.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

With that it is iffy!!

I'm correct arent I?
From the look of the site and everything else in regards to accepting
payments I thought it was legit. Also with the price not being too cheap or
expensive.

Microsoft, Please check into this site!!

Anyone else any ideas?

P.S I have not installed this software.

Legit?
I don't know.
Iffy - to say the least..

Did you read the Terms you agreed to?!

http://otk.fragaware.com/terms.php

OMG!!

.....
2. Basic Conditions of Purchasing at Downloadable Software online store
.....
2.3. You cannot register the software with the manufacturer and updates are
available not for all the products;
.....
6. Order Cancellation. Moneyback Policy.
6.1. The full credit will be issued in the following cases:
.....
6.1.4. Other reason which is supposed to be essential by our Customer
Service.
.....
6.2. Downloadable Software reserves the right to reverse the transaction
without prior notification in the following cases:
6.2.1. In 10-days term no attempts to download were recorded;
6.2.2. In indisputable way if Downloadable Software have reasons to doubt
about the transaction legitimacy, etc.
.....
7. Chargeback Policy
7.1. Chargebacks are not welcome, and all disputes can normally be resolved
by contacting the Support Department.
7.2. In case a chargeback is raised by you in connection with your order,
you may be forbidden from reordering from Downloadable Software and all
affiliated sites.
.....

----

Reading the terms alone pretty much puts me off ever buying from there.

Not to mention that a search for said file that you quoted points to nothing
but crack/keygen/warez sites. heh

Lappeenranta is in Finland and their IP address is apparently listed on
various spam blackhole lists, too.

You can't download the XP operating system legally from anywhere. Next
time go to the store or buy from a reputable vendor online such as
Amazon, NewEgg, etc.

But it's most definitely *NOT* legitimate. There is *NO* legitimate
source for downloading Microsoft operating systems and/or productivity
applications, unless you happen to own a very expensive MSDN
subscription, and are downloading from private (open to subscribers,
only) MSDN links.

Oh, yes. I'd have to say that you're quite correct to have become
suspicious. (Although, to be honest, the WGA program does sometimes, on
rare ocassions, inconvenience the user by reporting a false positive,
necessitating extra steps to correct.)

From the look of the site and everything else in regards to accepting
payments I thought it was legit. Also with the price not being too cheap or

Immediately, call your bank and cancel that credit card purchase. In
fact, you'd best cancel that credit card entirely, and get a new account
number, as you've given your credit card account information to a
criminal operation.

P.S I have not installed this software.

That's a good thing.

I fully agree with Malke, there's no place where you can download a VALID
Windows Operating system without paying the normal price. Trying to beat the
system and download a cheaper Windows OS will only result in relinquishment.

Stew;
"resonable price"
What is your definition of reasonable?
The price for Windows XP Pro is unreasonably low.
The spelling, grammar etc around the site is another major clue.

If it seems to good to be true...

good
idea really.

Unless you have paid big bucks for a subscription from Microsoft, there
are no legitimate "downloads" of any Microsoft product. Without the
Microsoft subscription, legit copies require distribution via media
(i.e., CD). You got ripped off and now have a pirated version. You get
get legit OEM versions with a qualifying hardware purchase, like a
cable, without any packaging but you do get the CD (and you do have to
pay shipping unless the other item's shipping already covers that cost).

"You cannot register the software with the manufacturer and updates are
available not for all the products;"

Yeah, I wonder why. Duh!

"You do not receive printed license documentation;"

Yeah. They sure wouldn't want to provide you with the COA (Certificate
of Authority) with its holographic decal.

"Downloadable Software reserves the right to refuse to sell product or
provide service to anyone, at its own discretion."

They certainly wouldn't want to sell to anyone within the same region as
their store operates to eliminate lawsuits regarding piracy. Basically
everyone is screwed once they get your money (and would really like you
to give them an unlimited credit card number).
Microsoft, Please check into this site!!

This a peer community of other users providing voluntary help. It is
not a source for free support from Microsoft. Microsoft has their own
contacts for reporting piracy.
P.S I have not installed this software.

Your choice if you want to get stuck with this "stuff" on your computer.
Who knows what *else* it might do.
