This seems to be a common problem, apparently without a cure. The best I
can offer is a lame workaround. Type two spaces at the end of the axis
title, then a period. This allows the axis to have only the period and
maybe a space cut off. To prevent the period from showing on another
machine without the affliction, select the period and change its font
color to match the background.
