Opening several similar charts shows same data

I have many saved files that are data from an external device. In th
old version of excel that I was using, I was asked wether I want th
data to update or not when I open these files. If I select "no" the
would open with the saved data and display with no trouble.

When I try to open these files with Excel 2007 I get the message tha
automatic update has been disabled, but the charts in every file I ope
look the same. No matter how many files I open, all the charts loo
like the one from the first file opened. I have tried changing th
automatic update options, but this doesn't help. To clarify, th
charts are set up the same (the same file is copied with differen
data) but the individual data sets should be different. The liste
data the chart is based on is even the same. If I open the files wit
the old version of Excel they are different.

I have been using a different machine with an older version of Excel t
look at this data, but I need something better than this work-around.
Thanks in advance for you help

I tried again to fix this issue, no progress so far. When I open a fil
with external data links the data is not updated and the link i
disabled (which is good when I am looking at saved data). When I ope
another file (copy of the first with differnt data) nothing is updated
the data from the first file is still displayed.

I think there must be an option that loads the saved data withou
looking for new data (which isn't there since the input device isn'
on), a setting inbetween "disable" and "fully on" if you will.

Anybody have any ideas
