Have looked at the Character Map but don't see a character for check mark.
Anyone know the numeric key board combination for a check mark?

The closest character is the start of the square root symbol.
You will find it in the Character Map in the "Math Extended" font.

In the ASCII code it is also number 251 ?

Some fonts have checkmark glyphs, e.g. MS Wingdings.
