Changing the Product Key

Can any one help......I bought a second hand computer
recently, and have found that the Windows XP is an
illegal copy. Therefore, I cannot get updates. I've now
bought a new XP Professional version, and would like to
change the product key without reloading Windows.
Can anyone tell me how to simply change the product key
to reflect my new version on XP professional.
