Changing the Hard Disk Drive

My computer can not read a HDD that is inside a portable media player. The
HDD is new and is probably unformatted. I cannot format it while it is in
the media player. If I remove the HDD from my computer, put in my new HDD
and format it, and then put my computer's HDD back in after that, will I lose
anything?

There are unknowns when trying to work with hardware from other
device classes. With the existing hard drive removed, the only
means of formatting the media player HD would be to boot off the
Windows XP cdrom. It would be better to make the media player HD
a slave to the existing HD and work off of Disk Management to do
the formatting.

However, the best and probably safest way would be to use an USB
external HD enclosure or dock.

What are the instructions with your media player for 'preparing' the hd?
Assuming you have them follow them, as not doing so may have unintended,
dire, consequences.
If not visit manu site for instructions
