Changing the 'focus' after deleting an e-mail

Hi

OK here is the scenario. I come into the office in the morning and have a
bunch of e-mails I need to read through. I select the oldest unread e-mail
and read the message in the Reading Pane. I now delete the e-mail. The next
e-mail that has the 'focus', or is selected, is the message BELOW the one I
have just deleted, therefore NOT the next unread e-mail. This is frustrating
- is there a way you can change this 'focus'.

Thanks

When you delete message 2, message 3 will become message 2 and will get the
focus.

Change your view to show only unread items. You'll then automatically travel
upwards when you start at the bottom. Otherwise, reverse your sorting order
and start at the top.

OK thanks that's not a bad workaround.

But is there any way to actually alter the focus? I'm sure Outlook didn't
use to do this.

(Should have mentioned I'm using 2007)

In addition to Roady's suggested workaround, you may also want to change the
setting at Tools | options | email options | after moving or deleting and
open item.... That's a setting about the Inbox behaviour as you go through
and delete or move items.

That is for items opened in their own window and not in the Reading Pane.
I've just deleted a sh*tload of messages in Windows Live Mail and it behaves
the same as Outlook. AFAIK; you cannot change this.

Ok I know. I just suggested it as it's another option for the chap to
consider as he can't get exactly what he wants.

Click Tools>Options>E-mail Options. What does the "After moving or deleting
an open item" drop-down say?

What about simply using the up arrow key and Scroll through your messages,
reading them as you go. Once all are read, you can highlight the ones you
want to delete and send them to the trash.
