changing sytem startup

I would like to know how to change system startup so I
can maximize my speed. There are several icons at the
bottom of my screen that apparently startup when the
computer is booted. On windows 98 you could go to run and
type msconfig go to startup and uncheck boxes but I don't
know how on windows 2000. Can someone help

Thanks
Kim

If you have access to a Windows XP machine, you can copy the msconfig.exe
file from there and use it on a Windows 2000 machine.

Also many of the programs nowadays have an option built
into them which allows you to make them not start during
startup. Usually found if you right click and go to
options or properties on the specific icon on the taskbar.
