Changing of SID

What are the effects of changing the SID for Windows XP? Will the service packs have to be reinstalled? I've installed a fresh copy of an enterprise edition of WinXP and add all the apps. After imaging the pc and changing the SID, the computer takes extremely long to logon after the password is entered.
