I click on the network connection i want to change. The option of changing the connection appears on the left, and when I click on it, I get a box that says that Explorer must quit.

Is there something wrong in the registry?

Or what?

Don

Hi, Does the same happen when you right-hand click on the
connection and click on properties?

Yes, it happens when I right click on the connection and click properties.

Hi Don,
You may well be correct with your assumption of a
registry problem. However there is limited guidance on
this issue from Microsoft. Firstly if this issue has just
started happening then performing a system restore would
be a good start. If this is not the case then could you
please check something for me.
(Before doing this try and access the properties of the
connection so that an error is created)
1. Open up the control panel
2. Choose administrative tools (if in category view first
choose performance & maintanence.
3. Open event viewer
4. Click on 'application' on the left hand side column
5. Near the top of the list there should be an error or
exclamation about Explorer.
6. Double click on this error, then follow the support
link in the text box. If this doesn't help, copy the text
to me. Looking forward to your feedback, Luke.

(P.S. Of course you could always try re-installing
windows again).

I found it impossible to copy and paste anything for you, so here is what it says verbatim:

Event ID: 1000
File Name: faultrep.dll
Product version: 5.1.2600.1232
Product Name: Microsoft Windows Operating System
Source: Application Error

If this is helpful, great. If not, pls let me know

Hi Don,
Thanks for the log info (it is enough for now). I
will perform some research on the error for you. In the
meantime could you check if there was a weblink when you
opened up the error in event viewer. Microsoft normally
included a link in each error like the following one:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. When you click
this link in the error log your computer will send the
information to Microsoft and it may provide an answer for
you. Thanks, Luke.

I'll do that. Will they e-mail me a response?

Don

ps Thanks a lot for the trouble.

Hi Don,
I'm afraid Microsoft will not e-mail you back a
response as this check is just to provide any information
on the error to you. Let me know if the problem persists,
Luke.
