Changing mic settings default

I wanted to know is there a way to change the default
settings in XP mic? I have audigy2 platinum and i want to
use the line2/mic2 ports in from instead if the back.
When i got change the settings from mic to line2/mic2 and
leave and when i go back it changes back to default mic.
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance
