Hi!

I have a template (.dot) to prepare some document. The
default font for the template is in Garamond (i.e. for
body tetx, Headings, etc.). I wonder, how can I change
all the font of this template to Times Roman
automatically instead of changing each of the defined
styles one-by-one?

Thanks.

Linda

It depends on how disciplined you've been in setting up the styles in the
first place. On the first of the Modify Style dialogs you'll see the 'Based
on' field. Most styles are 'Based on' normal. If you change the font for
normal, then all the styles based on normal will change also, unless you've
explicitly set their font to something else.

Hi Linda

If you have based your new template on Word's default normal.dot
template then the majority of styles derive their formatting from the
style 'Normal'.

If you change the font of the 'Normal' style, all other styles that
are based on Normal will also change.

HOWEVER, if documents you create with this template will be sent to
other people, I'd strongly advise you NOT to base your styles on
'Normal'. The following is from Clive Huggan's EXCELLENT 'Bend Word To
Your Will' available at <http://word.mvps.org>:

"The four main advantages of styling your body text other than with
Normal:
• With only a few mouse movements you can change the appearance of
body text in the entire document (but avoid changing other text).
• Other people's settings are less likely to take over yours if your
document goes to another computer
• You can specify a line spacing tailored to body text
• If you like to use automatic numbering (go ahead — live
dangerously!) and you share documents, you can avoid problems of
broken numbering sequences by not using Normal style or basing other
styles on Normal"

Most of my advanced knowledge of Word has come from
<http://word.mvps.org> and Clive Huggan's "bible" in particular! I
highly recommend the resources.

Hope this helps.

cheers
