Text Box Default Font

My normal.dot template is set to Times New Roman 12pt font. When I open a
text box, it defaults to Garamond 12pt. How can I keep the template default
but change the text box default to Arial 8pt?

When created, text boxes have the Normal style applied. If you
modified this style in the template, it should affect text boxes too.
Note, however, that changes in the Normal style, because of the style
hierarchy, will be inherited by a large number of other styles, which
means that some care should be exercised when modifying it (see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm).

Another approach is to format a text box the way you want it
(including applying a style to its empty paragraph), and then create
an AutoText entry from it. Insert the AutoText entry whenever you need
a text box with that particular format.
