changing default setting for photo program

Apparently someone changed the settings for my photo program. Usually I get a
window that will ask me if I want to make (something) my default program.
When I open pictures in the My Pictures from start, I get to the appropriate
page with folders of pictures but when I go to click on the pictures
themselves in the files, another photo program is opening them. I have been
searching for 2 days now for the location where I can make windows photos the
default program and not this other annoying program to view pictures. I tried
looking in the set defaults in control panel but there's no option for photo
programs. I remember a long time ago stumbling on that location for default
settings and being able to choose different programs but I can't find it now.

been bugging me for the longest time till I finally got annoyed and looked
into this!
