Changing CD & DVD drive name/letter

I've used the command "diskmgmt.msc" to change the assigned drive
name/letter for the existing hard-disc drives that I have, and that
works great!!

However, this command won't let me change the existing drive
name/letter for the CD & DVD drives that I have.

Is there some way to change these CD & DVD drive name/letter too..or
am I stuck with the XP assigned ones??

You can change them,

Right click My computer, select Manage,
Select disk management,
Open to full screen so you can see all the drives.
Highlite your cd drives one at a time,
Select Action at the top, All tasks,
Select Change drive letter and path,
Select a letter higher in the alphabet for each drive.

Make them at least 3 letters higher than your hard drives use, so they don't
interfere.

Something else must be going on here. I changed my CD/DVD drive
through diskmgmt some time ago, with no problems.

I did have to log in as admin user, I believe -- did you do that?

Have you checked that the drive letter you're trying to assign isn't
already in use, perhaps from some "net use" statement or something
else that might not be obvious?

When you say it "won't let you", can you describe a bit more exactly
what's happening?

Remember to have a disk in the drive when changing letters...
