changing application opened using shortcut

How do I tell a shortcut to a URL not to use the default browser, but
specify which browser to use when opening the link?

I have created a shortcut on my desktop that connects me to Oculus on
my company's intranet. Much as I would love to be able to click on it
and use my default browser (Mozilla Firefox) to use this, Oculus
doesn't play nice with Firefox, and I must use Internet Explorer (which
I don't mind since upgrading to IE7 beta).

Thanks!

That will not work on an Internet Shortcut.

http:// will be added to the front of anything typed into the URL: box.

You need a regular shortcut.

"c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe" URL

For example
"c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe" http:\\www.microsoft.com
will work if you first create a regular shortcut.

Right click Desktop | Point to New | Shortcut |

Brilliant! Works like a charm. Many thanks.

It worked that way when I tried it with Firefox. Oh well.

Ah, Grasshopper. You must know your opponent if you wish to face him.

I will say that IE7 has a lot of nice features; if only I could add-in
some of the features I use regularly in Firefox, I could reduce my life
to one browser, instead of two...

"...reduce my life to one browser..."

That's precisely what the folks in Redmond want ;-)
